Artist's Statement
My work is an exploration into the totality of the human condition. I often find myself painting what I don’t yet have language to express. Once it is on canvas, it can then be better articulated. With my art, I strive to provide the viewer a rubric for reality, while leaving enough room for interpretation. As a result, each examination will be different. Connection is at the crux of the human experience and that is the goal of my art—to find connection in an emotion. I aim to make my viewer feel deeply. Be it upset, joyous, disturbed or otherwise, I am only disheartened if the viewer is left unmoved. In a world that feels hectic and unsettling, I ask myself how I can speak to a deeper truth to my audience—to create a stirring. Facial features are often exaggerated to accentuate expressions, while abstraction lends to the emotion of each piece. I provide a context for thought, and it is the prerogative of the viewer to discern what arises.
